History of the Artifact

Camp del Cielo is an area in Argentina which is famous for its vast number of iron meteorites. Roughly 620 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, the area contains at least 26 craters, which are estimated to be only 4 or 5 thousand years old. In total over 100 tons of fragments have been recovered, making these meteorites some of the most accessible to the public. 

The human history surrounding these items is just as fascinating as the natural history. In the late 16th century, Spanish governor of the province commissioned the military to search for the source of iron which the natives used for their weapons. The group found the mass of iron, which the natives claimed fell from the sky. The meteorites were noted as having unusually high metal content. 

What you will receive is a small fragment of a meteorite, found in the Campo del Cielo Region.
